Shakur Stevenson, 9-0, 5 KO’s, made a major statement on the undercard of the ESPN card, knocking out Viorel Simion, 21-3, 9 KO’s, in the very first round. A right hook about half way through the first round put Simion down. He got up but was dropped from another barrage of punches, stumbling to the ground. At the very end of the round, another right hook would drop Simion and convince the referee to stop the fight. He never really recovered from the first knockdown. It was the first time that Simion was ever knocked out and it was a great display of the skills and power of the young featherweight as he makes his way up the ranks.
