Savage Spirit (2006) –HORROR MOVIE REVIEW

I’m a huge fan of micro-budget horror films. Despite the limitations in production value, acting ability and overall quality, you can usually see the heart of the filmmaker. SAVAGE SPIRIT is a micro-budget film, but despite that, the production value is decent, the acting is pretty good and the fun factor is high.

Cory Turner wrote and directed this tale about a ghost that is on a killing spree. The ghost, a female, zombie-like thing with an axe goes around chopping up anyone unfortunate enough to enter this house. She gets plenty of action when a birthday party is planned.

The party is going on as planned but when the party-goers go off on their own for one reason or another, they come face to face with terror. They get brutally murdered with the axe and I do mean brutally. They did not skimp on the blood here. In fact, it is spread everywhere and that adds to the fun factor. The look of the spirit is very good too and there are times where she comes off pretty creepy. There are a lot of jump moments, but not many of them work, with the exception of the monster jumping out of some steam in a shower. That was done pretty well.

The dialogue is decent, but not great. I found myself waiting for the next kill…and they didn’t disappoint. That is the spine of this film. The cool looking violent spirit is very compelling and fun. Every time that she was on screen, I loved it. When she was off screen, I didn’t shut the movie off, but it was forgettable.

We also have a psychic that comes along to rid the house of the spirit, leading to a fun conclusion to this micro-budget gem, and everything gets explained. Why is that ghost so pissed off? You’ll find out at the end of this flick.

SAVAGE SPIRIT is a very good micro-budget film with plenty of heart and gore. The film is loaded with attractive women in bikinis, but it’s not a skin-flick, which so many ‘horror’ films tend to be. The hot chicks are just icing on the cake. The cake is a killer zombie ghost with an axe. That alone should make you want to rent or buy this. I really enjoyed it. It was great fun.
