Pressed (2011) – ACTION MOVIE REVIEW

What would you do if you found 100,000 dollars in cash? Before you answer you may want to consider WHERE you found the money. I always tend to be the cautious type. In the crime drama “Pressed” two boys find 100 grand in a briefcase and decide to hold onto most of it. You know…just spend a little. Well after spending 55 thousand of the money they realize they are in trouble when the owner of the dough catches up with them. Let’s rewind to the beginning of the story.

The main character, Brian, played brilliantly by Luke Goss is a salesman for a huge company. This guy has some serious Moola. Unfortunately he just got laid off from his high paying job at an investment firm and starts to panic. After several calls trying to find work to no avail he ends up at a bleak strip club where he bumps into an old school-friend and owner of the joint named Jimmy. Jimmy offers Brian a one time job that can make him some big bucks. All he has to do is front the 100 Gs to do the deal and within a week he’ll end up getting back 10 fold the cash. Turns out it’s a drug deal. Jimmy puts the money in his car as a pick up spot for the dealers. This is where the plan falls apart.

Two loner boys, Jesse and Sam, decide to jack a car. Of course the first car they see is Jimmy’s. They take the car and soon discover the briefcase full of money. As I mentioned earlier, they only intend to spend a small amount but you now how it is with kids these days. All hell breaks loose when the dealer want his product back, Brian wants his money back, and no store will let these two hoodlums return any of the merchandise they bought to reclaim the cash. The story is high action and pressure throughout.

I enjoyed “Pressed” quite a bit although I feel there are a couple unbelievable parts such as why would anyone “hide” 100 thousand bucks in the back seat of an unlocked car parked on a main road in a shady section of town? I also had trouble believing that once these boys found the briefcase full of money in a car that they stole in front of a strip club that they would just go on a spending spree. Anytime money is in a briefcase something bad is going down. They rent a limo then buy a fancy new muscle car which to me stretched my suspension of reality because who would sell these punks a car like that? I just had trouble with those elements of the story. All that aside I really liked the movie and feel it is definitely worth a watch especially if you like films with action and thrills. “Pressed” is a bit long but the pacing makes it seem much shorter. This film is a sleeper that I believe you will enjoy.
