A prison turned into a museum in New Jersey is the setting where ghost hunters gather to see if they can gather concrete proof of ghostly activity. We begin with some stories about shadows being seen, some flickering lights, some orbs, and other paranormal activity happening at the prison where people were put to death and murder was commonplace. The tortured soul of a murdered prison guard apparently lives there too.

Well, we get a group of ghost hunters that camp out for a couple of nights and we get a whole lot of “what’s that” and “did you hear that,” but very little else. Much of the time they examine the electricity in the air with their EMF meter and come to the conclusion that the ghost is contacting them, giving yes and no answers via electrical currents.

The coolest thing that is caught is the EVP recording where a supposed voice from the beyond says: “Don’t bother me!” It was pretty interesting and clear. Now, there is a possibility that they picked up a radio transmission or even one of their voices in the distance, but let’s pretend it was a ghost. It’s more fun that way. The ghost didn’t want to be bothered.

For some drama, the host yells at the ghost when he believes that the spirit was trying to get him out of the prison basement. He yelled at the ghost and basically asked the spirit to “man up.” It was mildly amusing. The rest of the documentary consists of the group sitting around and debating about an “orb” that was caught on tape that looks remarkably like a bug. The orb flies around, flapping its wings, and then flies away. Could it have been a ghost bug? Perhaps…and if it was, it is the most conclusive evidence that ghosts possess insects EVER caught on tape.

GHOST HUNT – PARANORMAL ENCOUNTER AT BURLINGTON COUNTY PRISON is a good attempt by amateur ghost hunters to try to capture something and present a haunted location in America, but it fails by comparison to the current crop of ghost documentaries and TV shows that feature “experts” and a better understanding of what is being captured. The EVP is the best thing that came out of this show…everything else was rather mediocre.

Rating: 3/10.
