It’s been a long time since a dog collar match. The last one of great significance was the Roddy Piper – Greg Valentine bloody brawl. Well, AEW is all about history and honoring the past and we have another example here with this match.
Arn Anderson gives his thoughts about this match and how it could be “career-ending” for his client. Nobody cuts a better promo than Double A.
Cody comes to the ring with Brandi Rhodes, ready to avenge his defeat to Mr. Brodie Lee, but it won’t be easy. Lee comes to the ring and Anna Jay and John Silver of the Dark Order. Amazingly, Greg “The Hammer” Valentine is in attendance for this match.
Lee has not lost a match outside of his sole defeat to Jon Moxley. He has been flawless and dominant otherwise and he is getting more powerful by the week with his group.
Here we go. The two are connected by the neck with dog collars to a long chain. Lee takes immediate advantage with his power edge. Cody got a shot off on John Silver and he is busted open. It didn’t take long for blood to be shed.
Cody is getting offense going but it doesn’t last long. Lee takes control again with a yank of the chain, launching Cody off the top rope. After a DDT on the chain, Cody is now busted open.
After total dominance by Lee, Cody finally gets his shots in. It doesn’t last long as Brodie takes control again. Cody is having a very hard time getting a consistent attack going.
Cody gets some things done outside and busts Lee open. We have an all out brawl. Cody gets a near fall and he is gaining momentum. A DDT through a table nearly put Lee out for the count, but he kicked out. Cody is feeling this match and is taking full control and putting a beating down on the champion.
Lee throws a chair at Anderson and then punches him in the stomach. Poor Arn. Cody takes control again. This match is brutal, as advertised. Cody is trying to choke out Lee with the chain. The match was almost stopped.
Cody lands the Crossroads! Lee kicks out at 1! Lee lands a power bomb for a near fall. Who is going to win this one?! Lee lands a superplex, but both men are down. Cody is as vicious as ever and we get another Crossroads for the 3 count and a new champion! Cody has regained!
