On this week’s episode of AEW Dynamite, there was a segment that was pretty unexpected. MJF, the best heel in the game, came out and addressed the crowd and CM Punk about how he was bullied as a child and how he looked up to Punk and how his exit from pro wrestling changed his life. It was an origin story for a super villain and it was very compelling and believable and added another layer to MJF and a new angle for the CM Punk feud.
As MJF started to tear up from his recollections of the rough childhood, CM Punk came out and met MJF in the ring asking “is it true?” MJF nodded and exited the ring. This was the most interesting moment in the feud thus far and showed the best of both men. CM Punk’s one line and expression said a lot. The entire segment seemed as sincere as it could get.
The two will face off in a dog collar match at Revolution in a couple weeks and now it’s fair to say that the ending is impossible to predict. It’s likely that MJF is playing Punk and looking for some mercy in the dog collar match and he will use it to get the victory, but who knows? This feud keeps getting more and more interesting and that’s thanks in large part to the creativity of MJF and his dedication to the character.
