Former heavyweight champion, Mike Tyson, 50-6, 44 KO’s, returned to the ring in an 8 round exhibition against former multi-division champion, Roy Jones, JR., 66-9, 44 KO’s, with guest judges. That should have been the sign that something was wrong.
From the opening bell, Roy had no interest in mixing it up and tied up Tyson at every turn and the referee was in sleepwalk mode, allowing it and letting the seconds tick by. Tyson had his moments to the body and a few glancing head shots as Roy waited for the final bell to ring.
Vinny Pazienza, a man that lost by KO to Roy, scored every round for him. I am thinking that he either totally idolizes Roy, hates Tyson or has a man crush on Roy. I’m not sure what it is.
Without question, Tyson ran away with this fight and probably won every round. They called it a draw because they had to. I think that it was an unwritten rule that it was a draw if it went 8 rounds, but Tyson showed a few things. One, he’s a big threat at 54 years of age and that he is 54 years of age and needs to stay in this legends league that he created.
