Stand up comedy is one of my favorite things to watch so I naturally enjoyed Maz Jobrani’s new DVD “I Come in Peace”. His act touches on being a Middle Eastern man in America. He is a funny guy who seems very comfortable on the stage performing his unusual brand of comedy. His comedy really focuses a lot on international differences. He has obviously traveled the world and many of his jokes focus on the differences between the dozens of countries he has traveled to. This show was filmed in Stockholm, Sweden and is his third special that he has recorded so if you enjoy this show there are a couple other DVDs you can watch.
The disc also has a short film produced by Maz Jobrani called “My Two Worlds” and deals with racism in a funny and entertaining way through the eyes of the “victim” and the “perpetrator” of racism. Before anyone starts going off saying “Racism isn’t funny!” and all that other big talk just watch his short film and you will see what I’m talking about. Great job with the short film Maz! He shows us that no matter how much one may feel victimized by racism all humans by their very nature are racist in some shape or form but can’t admit it. It doesn’t mean people are bad, it just shows that there is a fear of people who aren’t exactly like ourselves and that it crosses into all races.
Overall a great stand up comedy special with a nice bonus film short. Maz Jobrani’s “I Come In Peace” is worth adding to your DVD collection of stand up comedy programs. Nicely shot in front of a pretty large crowd, it has the top notch production value we have become accustomed to of comedy shows seen on channels such as Comedy Central. If you like comedy you will love Max Jobrani in his special “I Come In Peace.”
