Deadline on DVD for the first time since 1961 – TV Show Review

As a huge fan of shows like DRAGNET, KOJAK, QUINCY and LAW & ORDER: SVU, I was eager to check out the newly released “DEADLINE,” a series that ran from 1959 through 1961, and I was not disappointed.

The show is structured much like DRAGNET with some TWLIGHT ZONE mixed in. The show, spreading 39 episodes, covers items that are “ripped right out of the headlines”, much like SVU, and much like SVU, they present them incredibly well.  The late fifties and early sixties was such a cool time for TV and we see it here with the courage of the journalists taking on the mob and crooked politicians.  It was time before fake news.  This was when we had the real journalists seeking the truth and confronting the bad guys and it’s presented amazingly in DEADLINE.  I binge-watched this show and my only complaint is that it only went 39 episodes.

This set is coming out on November 19th and if you like the shows mentioned above, this is a must own.  I recommend it for everyone, really.  This is just great writing and acting with some very interesting stories along the way.  I’m happy that I got the opportunity to watch this show.  The witty dialogue had me laughing, and the tough guys that are so rarely found in TV nowadays, were in full display.

On November 19th, pick this up, or buy it as a Xmas gift for any friends or family that won’t shut up about Law & Order.   It’ll be up their alley.
