Super lightweight Marcelino Lopez, 36-2-1, 21 KO’s, had a lot of issues with the taller Daniel Echeverria, 21-9, 18 KO’s, losing the first three rounds. Lopez wasn’t throwing much and was getting out-boxed and out-worked but the power was the deciding factor in the fight.
In round four, Lopez landed a hard right hand that dropped Echeverria hard. He got up but was hurt. He fought hard to try to keep Lopez off but a left hook late in the round would drop him again. He got up and made it to the end of the round and came out strong in round five, regaining control.
At the end of round five, Echeverria would find himself with his back against the ropes and another crushing right hand would knock him down and out. Lopez didn’t look great and looked very tired after round three, but his power was enough to get him the win and possibly get a much bigger fight in his next outing.
