KILLJOY (2000) – Clown Horror Movie Review

I have a great hunger for obscure movies no matter what the budget and therefore decided to give this one ago, as you can’t beat a scary clown movie…

The movie begins with Michael, (Jamal Grimes) a man with strong feelings for Jada (Vera Yell) who is talking to her friend, Monique (D Austin) he approaches them, wanting to talk to Jada.

Michael, is a decent man with a tragic love for a gangster’s girl that is destined for tragedy and while talking to Jada, her boyfriend, the gangster, Lorenza (William L Johnson) and his thugs, T Bone (Corey Hampton) and Baby Boy (Rani Goulant) suddenly appear and Michael is beaten though very angry and humiliated he decides upon conjuring a demon clown within a black magic ritual.

And after performing his ritual, poor old Michael is tricked in to joining, Lorenza and his thugs and is taken for a ride, Lorenza, begins to screw around with Michael’s head by brandishing a gun at him, making Michael beg for his life and continues to mess with Michael until accidently the gun goes off and Michael is shot dead.

Then the movie jumps one year later in which to me ruins the pace of what could have been a very edgy dark movie, as why has it taken a year for the curse to begin?

Though back to the movie, Jada is now seeing a guy named Jamal (Lee Marks) a genuine and decent guy, as for Lorenza, he is now going out with a girl named Kahara (Napiera Groves) and while they are to become intimate, T Bone and Baby Boy rush outside to where an ice cream van is waiting along with the monster KillJoy (Angel Vargas).

Both T Bone and Baby Boy, face a gruesome end in the hands of the crazed clown, though Kill Joy does not stop there and Lorenza is his next target… It seems at times the movie is hard to follow and there seems to be far too much going on to digest… and needless to say Killjoy also goes after Jada and her friend, so the race is on…

There are a few extra characters in the movie that too me are pretty pointless and flat.

This movie could and should have been better, and you don’t need a mega budget to make a good creepy movie as proven many a time, therefore I would say give this one a miss.

By Forris Day Jr. One of the biggest problems, we as writers have, when creating a screenplay, especially a feature length, is keeping track of everything. Think about it; there are usually multiple characters, locations and we have to follow each characters arc as the story progresses. Difficult to say […]
