“You said you wanted a jailhouse fuck!” – Sgt. Johnson (D.B. Sweeney)
I get a lot of odd movies to review, but there are very few that are as strange as K-11. There was a comparison to SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, but after watching it, I can’t say that I see it, outside of the fact that the setting is a prison.
Raymond Saxx (Goran Visnjic), a record producer, finds himself locked up and confused. He is sick and basically incoherent and is transferred to K-11, where they house all of the gay and transgender male inmates. A lot of these transgender dudes can pass for hot chicks…and that’s because they are played by hot actresses, but because this movie demands it, I pictured them with male junk hanging.
Mousey (Kate Del Castillo) is the man/woman that runs K-11 and it’s difficult to see her as a dude. There was a shower scene where she had a bulge and I give them an A for effort there. Chick with a dick…got it! She is working with the crooked rapist Sgt. Johnson (D.B. Sweeney) and Ben Shapiro (Jason Mewes). Jason Mewes was “Jay” of “Jay and Silent Bob”, and he looked terrible in this film. The rough life and personal demons have taken a toll on him physically.
It comes out that Saxx is a murderer and he panics but gets immediate support from Mousey. Hey, if you’re going to be locked up, it’s better to be locked up with (almost) women. In SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, it was all manly dudes.
Another familiar face in this is Tommy Lister in the role of “Detroit.” I knew him as “Zeus” from NO HODDS BARRED. Others may know Lister as an incredibly religious man that does God’s work, and others may know him as the guy that conspired to commit mortgage fraud to the tune of 4 million dollars. Here, he is Detroit, a child molester that continually rapes Butterfly (Portia Doubleday), one of the most likable characters in the film.
Sgt. Johnson keeps sexually harassing poor Saxx and he has to deal with his ex-wife and her shady lawyer as well. His life is just in the shitter and he has no recollection of the murder he’s accused of. The prison he’s in is very different from the other prisons you see depicted in film. There is drug usage, fashion shows, and potential weapons like scissors and razors allowed for beauty’s sake.
An alliance is formed between Saxx and Mousey after Sgt. Johnson gets rid of Shapiro as his “bitch,” and fills that slot with Saxx. This guy Johnson reminds me of the fat guy in TERMINATOR 2 that licked the face of Sarah Conner. When you have a prison setting, you have perverts up the wazoo.
After Detroit is taken down, the prisoners unite against the establishment and they do a good job with it. I was very amused with how they set up the crooked sergeant and his reactions afterwards, especially when he boomed: “You said you wanted a jailhouse fuck!” I bet Elvis would record “Jailhouse Fuck” if he was alive today!
I have mixed feelings about K-11. I enjoyed it, but there wasn’t much to it. The performances were very good and the characters were good, but it was difficult to buy the story and situation and the journey of Saxx didn’t seem that traumatic…outside of the dry hump from Sgt. Johnson. I recommend it, but I wasn’t overly impressed with it.
