Jaws 4 (1987): The Revenge – Horror Movie Review

I’ve actually owned this movie for about 2 years.  When the Hollywood Video stores began closing over here in New England, my husband and I went through a few of them and bought way too many movies but hey everyone has a hobby.

Now, I only even watched it because my favorite podcast in the whole world and one I’ve mentioned several times, “How Did This Get Made?” reviewed it and it just sounded insane.

It opens with Sean Brody (Mitchell Anderson), who has followed in his father’s footsteps and is the sheriff of Amity going to remove a log from the ocean.  He goes into the water only to be eaten by a shark.

His mother Ellen (Lorraine Gray) has now lost two of the most important people in the world to sharks.  Mr. Brody (Roy Scheider) died of a heart attack related to his fear of sharks.  Ellen is devastated and believes the shark is out for revenge.

A trip to the Bahamas with her other son Michael (Lance Guest) gets her out of her slump.  Michael, who is an oceanographer assures Ellen that there are no sharks in the Bahamas because the water is too warm.  She is still nervous and begs him to change professions but he refuses as both he and his friend Jake (Mario Van Peebles) are working on their doctorates.  When the duo find a shark in the water they foolishly keep it to themselves which leads to the deaths of innocent victims.

Ellen meets Hoagie (Michael Caine), a pilot who swoons her and works to help her get over her fear of sharks.

This movie is definitely in the so-bad-it’s-good category.   If you need a solid plot that makes sense, this certainly isn’t the movie for you.  If however, you own Birdemic: Shock and Terror and find Nightmare on Elm Street part 2 great cinema, then perhaps you too can find enjoyment in Jaws 4:  The Revenge.

Be sure to look up the original ending on youtube where the full shark is shown in all its glory.

Don’t forget to listen to the podcast either…it’s hilarious and can be downloaded for free at www.Earwolf.com.

Scared Stiff Rating:  8/10 – It’s so bad it’s good.

By Geno McGahee When I first saw the trailer for REAL STEEL, I had absolutely no interest in seeing it. I finally got around to watching it, due to my love of boxing and good press that the film got, and I was more than pleasantly surprised. Charlie Kenton (Hugh […]
