Inexchange (2006)

I love 50 pack horror movies. Even if the majority of them are bad, and they usually are, it’s still a lot of fun to go through them and seek out the hidden gems. In a fifty pack called “Tomb of Terrors,” I discovered a film called INEXCHANGE, featuring a popular horror topic: the misfit’s revenge.

We begin with Maury (Sean Blodgett), a quiet kid in college that keeps to himself and doesn’t seem to have any sort of life. His roommate, Jay (Todd Richard Lewis), and his buddy treat Maury very poorly, picking on him and only treating him well when they need something, like homework. You get a feeling that the writer of this film, Zack Parker, may have had the original setting of this film in high school, but settled for college because he had to. In the world of no budget, you have to improvise.

Jay invites Maury to a big party and he reluctantly agrees to go. Jay immediately states that Maury is “the guest of honor” and begin to get him drunk. After Maury gets drunk, the evil plan of Jay and his friends is revealed…and it’s strange. They tie Maury up and then drag him outside and take a leak on him. That’s the plan. That’s it. Well, then they refer to him as “piss boy” afterwards a few times. You figure that they could have come up with something better than just pissing on him. I don’t understand the motive, especially when Jay has to live with Maury, but that was the incident that sets off the young misfit.

After being urinated on, Maury is untied by Lara (Tiffany Wilson), a girl that feels sorry for him, so much so that she begins dating him. The fact that she used to be friends with Jay and his group and is now dating Maury infuriates her old friends. Maury gets a punch in the chops for it…pushing him over the edge just a little more and that is when this movie gets strange.

A figure in black with a blindfold over his eyes appears and begins to talk to Maury about revenge and desires. The figure begins killing the people that have made Maury’s life hell, and Maury knows it, and tries to protect Lara from becoming collateral damage. After all, she still does have some association with that horrible group of pissers and that blindfolded weirdo may just take her out for the fuck of it.

There is an obvious twist at the end of this movie, but it’s not too bad. The movie does drag along slowly with scenes that were put in there to extend it to the 90 minutes, but if you like micro-budget film, you will probably like this one. It was a very good effort all around and although it could have been much better, it still wasn’t that bad all around.

Scared Stiff Rating: 5/10. It pissed me off.

Reviewed by Geno McGahee I picked up the DARKMAN trilogy on DVD for 9 bucks at Walmart. Although I had never seen any of these films, I figured it was a good deal. Sam Raimi was involved, coming up with the story and directing the first one and I had […]
