Film fans and gaming fans of all kinds …this review is for you.
Every once in a while I find a place so awesome that I just need to share it with the readers. Video Game Castle is one of those places -and in all honesty I should have shared it quite some time ago. Locals are most likely familiar with the store, but for those who are not -here is a quick introduction to the best store in Western MA.
Video game and movie lovers both will find a treasure when they enter. It has both the heart that is missing from outlets like Game Stop and Blockbuster and the selection that is missing from most mom & pop shops.
It’s located in my town of residence, Chicopee MA. When you walk in – to your left in a glass case sits all the old Nintendo games. Those of us in our thirties is easily taken on a nostalgic trip as games like Remote Control, Wrestlemania, Duck Tales, and Donkey Kong are sold at extremely reasonable prices. Though I generally visit to see what movies are for sale, the Nintendo games are my personal favorites. They remind me of when I was 7 or 8 years old, sitting on my bed in my bedroom trying desperately not to die while pressing buttons as quickly as I could.
Today my husband and I purchased a system for $29.00 that plays Nintendo games. I also picked out California Games, which as a child I was great at. Honestly, even now, I’m still not too shabby. Friday the 13th was another pick which I always enjoyed, though I was one of the few that did. I think it once made a list on Yahoo as one of the 20 Worst Games of all time. The hubby chose The Rocketeer game which neither of us had ever heard of, but as a huge fan of the film, he was interested to try it.
My husband also bought the DS videogame Retro Game Challenge which as I write this he is playing.
I also picked up 3 DVDs. DVDs are only $2.00 each or 3 for $5.00. That’s enough to secure me as a customer. As I typically review horror, I’m always looking for cheap movies I haven’t seen. Today I picked up SwimFan, Summer of Fear, and the American version of Godzilla which I hear is dreadful. I’m hoping it’s the type that is “so bad it’s good.” There are plenty of choices and the staff is always helpful. They check all the discs before selling them and put them through a cleaner.
It goes without saying that they sell Xbox, Wii, and PS3 games. They buy and trade systems, movies and games as well. They also have a decent VHS movie selection which is always fun to look through.
I can’t suggest the Video Game Castle enough. They have a large fan base and a great number of people who visit regularly. My nephew adores the store almost as much as the husband and I love it. I can’t tell you how many purchases I’ve made from them but I can tell you I have never had a problem with a game, system, or movie. Everything works smoothly.
When I visit my in-laws in Atlanta, my very cool brother-n-law brings my husband and I to locations like this. Sadly, in Western MA they are few and far between. That said, as long as the Video Game Castle exists, I know I’ll be able to find something fun and entertaining to do on my day off.
