HOSTEL 2 (2007) – Sadistic/Horror MOVIE REVIEW

It would be interesting to know how many people backpack around the world, or just part of the world per year… I would imagine tens of thousands or even hundreds of thousands, possible towards the million marks or even past that? Well now here is an interesting fact, a very small number of people that do backpack do go missing every year, though most are found, but what about the ones that aren’t? Do they find a corner of the world where they settle down and wish not to be discovered? Optimism, that’s me, well this movie is not about happy endings regarding the ones that go missing, far from it; they become toys for the twisted rich people in this second, disturbing trip in the sleazy, sadistic world of Hostel…

The Movie…

Since managing to survive the first Hostel movie, Paxton (Jay Hernandez), as began to suffer with Paranoia and nightmares of that tragic trip and even though he is in hiding with his girlfriend, the elite hunting organisation manage to get to him and behead him…

We are then introduced to the next victims of this nightmare being, three art students, Beth (Lauren German), Lorna (Heather Matarazzo) and Whitney (Bijou Phillips) all three are intending to travel to Prague, leaving Rome, and again we are introduced to some shady Europeans, one being the, Axelle (Vera Jordanova), who claims to be heading to Slovakia, for the hot springs and therefore the gullible three young women are talked in to going…

And in this movie unlike the first we get to meet the ones bidding on the unknown victims, two of them planning on killing these pretty young women being, Stuart (Roger Bart) and Todd (Richard Burgi), men that apparently lead ordinary life’s and yet harbor dark sickening fantasies.

And in this movie, we again meet the young bubblegum kid and his gang that terrorizes the streets and in one scene one of the children are executed, in which is hard hitting for a horror movie, also in another sickening scene, Lorna is naked, tied up and hung upside down where she is tortured by the sadistic, Mrs. Bathory (Monika Malacova), before finally having her throat cut; Mrs. Bathory, bathing in her blood.

We also get to meet the legendary director, Ruggero Deodato, ironically playing a cannibalistic man, eating his victim alive.

Beth and Whitney are soon captured and strapped to the chairs, Stuart and Todd being the ones to torture them, but can they go through with it, as Stuart has been having his doubts…
Well a sickening climax mounts, in which we see both Todd and Whitney die before Stuart is strapped to the chair and Beth pays to torture him, removing his genitals, now where have we seen that done? Of course Deodato’s, “Cannibal Holocaust”.

It leaves me to say, Eli Roth sure went all out to shock and disgust us with this movie that is heavy influenced by the Cannibal movies… I don’t know if you can remember, “Last Cannibal World” another Deodato movie, in which children humiliated and torture a captive in the camp, kind of makes you wonder about Bubblegum kid and his gang, maybe a slight influence there?

Well it leaves me to rate this movie…

Rating: 7/10
