The IBF/IBO Middleweight Champion, Gennadiy “GGG” Golovkin, 41-1-1, 36 KO’s, returned to the ring to take on the unknown challenger, Kamil Szeremeta, 21-1, 5 KO’s, and patiently destroyed him.
In the opening round, Golovkin pressed and it was evident that Szeremeta didn’t have the firepower to concern him. A left hook put down Szeremeta at the end of the round. He would be knocked down again in rounds 2 and 4 and the fight became a systematic destruction.
In round 7, a jab dropped Szeremeta again and the bout was hopeless and his corner knew it. It was stopped in the corner. GGG still has the power and jab that he was known for, but he is visibly slower and his reflexes aren’t what they once were. He can easily beat most of the middleweights out there, but an elite fighter could probably exploit his lack of foot speed and reflexes at this stage of his career.
