GANGSTERS, GUNS AND ZOMBIES (2012) – ZOMBIE/COMEDY HORROR Review

By Chris Summerfield

It seems since the arrival of, “The Walking Dead” upon our screens, there has been a rise in the amount of Zombie movies being made, though they have always been popular, however more, independent movie makers are having a go. This one has been directed by Matt Mitchell and he also co wrote it.

Six hardened gangsters are fleeing a bank robbery somewhere within London. The driver, Q (Vincent Jerome) The leader, Tony (Huggy Leaver) also members, Pat (Frank Rizzo) Muscles (Charlie Rawes) Crazy Steve (Fabrizio Santino) and injured, Danny (Simon Mathews), Danny having been shot during the bank robbery; the gang are heading for the safe house, and during the journey they seem to witness random acts of violence and cannibalism, large crowds of people running around, chasing screaming and killing.

The hospital they head to being overrun with the dead coming back to life, the gang flee having to take part in a fist fight with the living dead to escape, though the dead aren’t the best opponents when all they want to do is bite.

They then decide to head to another safe house towards the coast and during the journey Danny dies, so therefore they decide to bury him in the woods, (like you would when there is a zombie epidemic on) And guess what? Yes you guessed it, Danny wakes as one of the walking dead and not only is he a problem but they seem to have a small band of Zombie’s dressed in medieval armour to deal with has well.

They then head for a petrel station, and yes more disaster strikes, Crazy Steve was bitten earlier, he distracts a party of zombies while the rest escape.

Where they finish up? At a windmill, where Cassie, (Cassandra Orhan) and her dangerous Grandma (Jennie Lathan) live, they then find themselves surrounded by zombies, and as it becomes obvious grandma and Tony have different plans, tragedy again strikes and those that survive flee for the coast, of course to steal a boat…

There is no real gore within this movie, no heads being blown off or bodies ripped apart like most Zombie movies you would see, however there is plenty of abusive language… Then again these are hardened, Cockney gangsters.

If like me you enjoy a zombie movie now and again, this is definitely one to look out for, it as a nice plot and at times is funny, though saying that there is nothing original as such… Then again how can you possible make something original with Zombie movies now, to sum them up, people die, they stand back up, they get shot, they die again, I think that covers the general idea of a zombie movies.

It leaves me to just say, not a bad effort from Matt Mitchell, well done and hope to see more horror movies from you soon…

Rating: 7/10

  1. Hey Matt, your welcome. I truly enjoyed your movie and always try to promote both British and American, micro budget movies whenever I can.
