Nominee Signs to Smartpunk Records, Premieres New Single On The Noise – Music News

Rock band Nominee have spent the last year quietly working away, writing and recording and planning. Today it comes to fruition as the band announces that they have signed to Smartpunk Records and share their first single under the label, “Hypertension.” Fans can stream “Hypertension,” available everywhere this Friday, November 15th, now exclusively on The Noise. The song can be pre-saved on  Spotify and  Apple Music, and a limited edition lathe cut 5″ can be ordered now, here.
 
We’ve done everything ourselves for so long because of the standard we wanted to set and it felt incredible to finally find a label who really embraced and supported that about us,” the band shares. “‘Hypertension’ is a tribute to our city and day one supporters. Austin has had our backs since the beginning and in our travels through out the last 6 years, we’ve noticed how lucky we truly are.
 
They continue: “Our scene doesn’t just support our band, but almost every band and art as a whole. We’ve seen the same faces for years and years over now, and that support is unwavering. Our friends show out every time.
 
Austin has been in a transformation since we started this band. It’s becoming more costly and nearly impossible to live in the city. While us, our friends and supporters get pushed further and further away, geographically, we haven’t gotten any further apart. We’re all here to stay.”
 
Austin five-piece Nominee has road-ready hooks and spitfire production values in their DNA. It developed over five years spent criss-crossing the United States in search of new fans from SXSW and back. A collection of releases has already established them as a post-hardcore powerhouse, effortlessly blending true grit with infectious energy. Their debut LP-coming spring 2020 via Smartpunk Records (Northbound, Baggage)-doubles down on their winning formula for an early podium finish.
 
According to frontman Chris Mclelland, “every song sounds like Nominee, but we’ve added some new elements that we’re really excited about as well.” Nominee’s already pushed against impossible odds, tackling bipolar disorder on 2017’s Drag Me Out and addiction cycles on their 2014 debut. Their latest effort is a second wind in the boxing match against self and others with a reinvigorating coat of paint. Produced by Pete Adams and Dorian Cooke (ex-Broadside), Nominee’s songs have grown larger and wilder. The smoky haze propelling “Hell” to the fantasy-grade storytelling on “Better Days” feel just as natural as Nominee’s most aggressive highlights. Even the most direct moments, like the bright pop rock blasts of “Interstellar,” feel bolder and more pronounced, built more for stadium runs than sweat-lodge basements.
 
Maybe the sonic leap comes from the record’s month-long recording process, which transformed petty disagreements into more earnest collaborations. Perhaps it comes from Mclelland’s lyrical bent, which shows off more resilience and focus. Although wavering between self-destruction (like on the smoldering “Kitchen Sink”) and self-actualization (“P.O.P.”), this Nominee has taken the lessons they’ve learned to heart, finding responsibility and clarity can go hand in hand when picking themselves up from the latest disaster.
