Dana White made his feelings known, noting that the Floyd Mayweather JR – Khabib Nurmagomedov MMA-Boxing fight will not be taking place. He advised the fans to just ignore it, but this is similar talk that we saw prior to the Conor McGregor – Money Mayweather from White. As shown in the past, if it makes dollars, it makes sense, and if the money is right and White gets his share, the fight will happen.
The problem with this fight is that it’s just not there like it was with McGregor. There was some curiosity to see the best in the UFC take on the best in boxing inside of the boxing ring, but we saw it and it ended as expected. Khabib may be a better MMA fighter than McGregor, but it doesn’t translate into boxing and there is absolutely no way that Floyd will step into a cage.
I still don’t believe the fight will take place, but there seems to be some gears turning to get it into the ring. Floyd will take the easy money and outbox Khabib without much problem. Where is the intrigue? The only real attraction is that this fight would be an attraction and the boxing and MMA fans can throw away true competition if we are entertained. We will see how it plays out.
