I am now terrified for the main event considering that we saw such a screwed up scorecard in this opening welterweight fight on the DAZN fight card. Florian Marku, 9-0-1, 6 KO’s, used his jab to control Maxim Prodan, 19-1-1, 15 KO’s, over the course of 10 rounds to win an IBF trinket, but this is boxing and you never know. The decision was split despite the decisive victory that Marku had by scores of 97-93, 96-94 and then shockingly 99-91 for Prodan. It was absurd. I had it 98-92 for Marku.
Prodan had one moment in the seventh round when he landed a left hook. Otherwise, he just followed Marku around and ate jabs. He never opened up. When he finally threw punches, he could not find the mark. Marku, a former kickboxer and MMA fighter, didn’t have a punch really, which is typical when the transition is made to boxing, but he had a jab and that’s all it took to control Prodan. It was pretty shocking to watch a fighter with 19 wins and no losses not having any game.
