Releasing on Digital, DVD and On Demand from Lionsgate, DRAGON SOLDIERS is a very unique military modern dragon stories that was actually a pleasant surprise. The first thing that you have to assume is that the CGI will be bad for a lower budgeted film and that the dragon would look pretty bad, but it’s actually pretty good. It’s not that far away from DRAGONHEART’S dragon in design and execution. I was able to suspend disbelief and have a good time.
There’s a dragon that has been hiding in the mountains and people are getting killed. The town doesn’t know what to do. So it employs a group of mercenaries to go into the woods and take down the beast and stop the bloodshed, but there is plenty more to be had.
Cameron (Ruben Pla) leads his group and we get most of the action taking place in the woods. There could have been some PREDATOR influence here. At least there seems to be. Green (Antuone Torbert) steals the show in this, with his action lines and delivery. This is a B movie without doubt and is pretty self-aware of what it is.
DRAGON SOLDIERS reminded me a lot of the films that I used to watch on the SyFy channel. It’s over the top with plenty of destruction and funny dialogue and it really amused me. I have to recommend it if you enjoy over the top madness with plenty of action. I’ll give it this. It’s not boring.
