Pacific Northwest based band Dead Lakes has premiered a video for their newest single “SMS Happiness” today exclusively with Alternative Press. The video perfectly complements the band’s genre fluid sound with dark but neon colors, subtle light changes, and full live band bringing together their R&B, electronic, and alt-rock influences. Fans can check out the video at https://www.altpress.com/features/dead-lakes-sms-happiness-premiere/

“You know when you aren’t doing all right but you act like you are on the outside? That’s really the headspace I was in when writing the lyrics for this song.” Vocalist Sumner Peterson shares with AltPress. “We just wanted to showcase that bright, fun vibe with the lyrical contrast. Also, we are all super fun and upbeat people. We don’t want to be remembered for the lyrical heartache. We want to be remembered for the good-vibes feeling you get when you make it through the different challenges of life. We thought it was important to find a way to convey that throughout all the visuals for the record.”

The track is from the band’s upcoming EP New Language, their first since signing to SharpTone Records this year. Due to be released this Friday, May 1stNew Language was produced by Erik Ron (Godsmack, Dance Gavin Dance, Set It Off) and carries a bold sound with huge appeal to any fan of The NeighbourhoodPVRIS, or Bring Me The Horizon.”SMS Happiness” joins previously released “Close 2 Me” and “Paradise” from the forthcoming album.

Singer Sumner Peterson writes honestly about his experiences with anxiety attacks and tumultuous repressed emotions, a young adult who continues to struggle with life’s biggest questions and struggling to fit into society. And yet, his instantly recognizable voice, layered atop the hook-laden bounce crafted by Max Statham and Legacy Bonner (guitars), Cody Hurd (bass) and Chon Adam (drums), soars with powerful purpose. Whether the passing of a close friend, mitigating the circumstances of betrayal, or burdened with feelings of hopelessness, the melodic urgency and sincere optimism underlying DEAD LAKES music always persists right below the surface.
