Jim Ross is back tonight for the show tonight and it is live! We are kicking it off with Cody Rhodes against Joey Janela. Cody is getting ready for Lance Archer at Double or Nothing with TNT championship gold on the line, but Janela has been doing well lately and always gives his opponents a run for their money.
The two begin with a shaking of hands, but it doesn’t take long for the two to start really taking it to each other. AEW has an audience tonight with some of the talent at ringside with some social distancing.
Janela is still trying to find something that sticks with his character. He has a lot of the elements to be a star, but he keeps missing the mark, unable to connect with the audience. I don’t know what it is, but hopefully he finds it.
The two bring the fight to the outside, including a moonsault from Cody off the stage. It was impressive, but it still doesn’t beat the one off the cage with Wardlow. As the match goes on, the difference in talent is more evident and Cody begins to control the action, although Janela is getting his spots, including a top rope elbow that got the near fall.
Cody lands a crazy reverse superplex off the top rope. It was scary and got a two count on Janela, and it left Cody limping. Janela got a very good counter suplex, followed by a clothesline. Cody would dodge a flying attack to land a top rope Cody cutter, but Janela kicked out, once again.
The two punch it out in the middle of the ring, but Cody would sneak in a Crossroads to get the 1-2-3, gaining some momentum leading to the Lance Archer title fight.
