The living member is brought to the hospital and shortly before his death, he tells Mr. Olsen (Richard Kennedy), the owner of the ski resort that he had actually found a snow beast. Olsen becomes obsessed with finding one and turning his town into a prosperous place, where money would flow in and make him extremely wealthy, but he has let it all go to his head. He has gone crazy, which makes this movie that much better. He sets up two of his own men and then, when alone, he laughs maniacally…just in case you couldn’t tell that he was a bad guy.
Nothing is going to stop Olsen from capturing the beast and he actually does accomplish this, and even laughs maniacally some more. There is even a point in the movie where Olsen runs down a poor old man with his huge vehicle and then laughs some more. I think that this Olsen was the most over the top villain that I have seen in some time. In other words, he was fantastic!
A few things were a turn off for me as far as this movie was concerned. The sheriff that did impressions of Humphrey Bogart and others was annoying and the all knowing Native American has gotten old as the solution to every natural problem, but other than that, this movie was a winner. The look of the Yetis could be better, but there is one point when the baby Yeti smiles at a young boy and he looks so ridiculous that you have to laugh.
This movie is about Olsen, period. He makes this movie with his over the top evil ways and maniacal laugh. You mix that with a yeti and you get a great flick. Screw IMDB for their ridiculous 1.6 rating on this movie. This is the best Sasquatch movie that I have ever seen. Move over Snowbeast (my prior favorite) and Harry and the Hendersons (kinda sucked). Capture of Bigfoot is a very entertaining movie.
Special props to George Flower, who once again played a strange and creepy town outcast. You may remember him from: Wishmaster, They Live, Cheerleader Camp, and Body Bags. He may play the same character in each film, but if it’s not broke, you don’t fix it! The 1970s proved to be the best years for horror films and this is another example. They took a small budget and turned it into a great Bigfoot movie. I found this movie for a dollar in a double feature pack DVD, and if you can find it, buy it! You will not regret it and even if you did…it’s only a buck.
Scared Stiff Rating: 7.5/10. An over the top villain and a yeti is a can’t miss combination.
