We begin with an overview of Chris Jericho from the eyes of many competitors including Jake Hager, Sammy Guevara, Jungle Boy, Scorpio Sky and Dr. Britt Baker. Taz is on commentary along with Jim Ross, Tony Schiavone, Excalibur and Ricky Starks is sitting in.
We begin with Will Hobbs getting his shot at the FTW title against Brian Cage, the defending champion. Cage is coming in with a record of 8-1 with his only defeat being to the AEW Champion Jon Moxley.
Hobbs starts out quickly but Cage drops him early. Hobbs attacks and this is a power match with both men exchanging big moves. Cage is taking control early on and gets a near fall with a top rope slam.
Hobbs is having a hard time getting any momentum. Every time that he gets in a big move, Cage comes right back and takes control again. Hobbs finally gets some consistent aggression going and is manhandling Cage, which is a rare thing. He can’t get the 3 count, but he’s coming close.
Hobbs is putting up a very good showing in this match and is a budding star in AEW. He gets a near fall but misses the frog splash. Cage lands his finisher and gets the 1-2-3 to defend his title. Taz comes to the ring with Ricky Starks and offer Hobbs the opportunity to be part of Team Taz. That is on option. The other option is an ass kicking.
Darby Allin comes to the ring to save Hobbs.
