One of my favorite all time comedians is Bill Cosby. Growing up, one of my favorite television shows was “The Cosby Show.” I watched each episode over and over again. Recently, I began watching the sitcom again as it is on the Netflix Instant Watch queue. I’m happy to say it was just as great as when I viewed it as a kid. I loved him in “The Devil and Max Devlin,” and “Ghost Dad.” I watched the cartoon “Fat Albert” and “The Bill Cosby Show” which were both great achievements. I personally thought “Cosby” was one of the great last sitcoms on television though still did not capture the magic of its predecessor.

My husband and I decided to obtain “Bill Cosby, Himself,” as his original copy had been damaged in a flood. Neither of us had seen it in years. It is great to see that his magic is timeless. The jokes he tells regarding marriage, kids, parents, drugs, dentists and other every day activities are as true today as they nearly 30 years ago. As I was a mere child when I watched it originally, it’s funny to see how many phrases and sayings that I adopted in my language from him.

There are so few great stand-up comedians. The greatest: George Carlin, Richard Pryor, Steve Martin, Bob Newhart, and of course Bill Cosby have been able to entertain and make people laugh harder than anyone who came before or after. Today so many comedians rely only on vulgarity and sexualized humor that is unfunny or gimmicks and lame gags. People like Carlos Mencia and Jeff Dunham come to mind.

They lack comedic timing, relatable humor and most of all a genius behind the mic. Bill Cosby exemplifies what a stand-up comedian should be. More than that, he has proved himself a leading man in several successful series.

I would love for the younger kids to go and watch Bill Cosby’s standup to see what true comedy is and how it is perfected.

Scared Stiff Rating 9/10

Trust (2010)

Reviewed by Melissa Garza I woke up this morning, as my husband still slept and decided to watch whatever I could find on Netflix that was most similar to that of a Lifetime Movie plot. I read the synopsis of “Trust” which sounded as though it fit the genre and […]
