(Warner Bros. Home Entertainment provided me with a free copy of the DVD I reviewed in this blog post.  The opinions I share are my own.)

The hit HBO series “BIG LITTLE LIES”, The Complete Second Season, is releasing on Blu-Ray and DVD on January 7th and is currently available on Digital from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment.  The show has an all-star cast including Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Laura Dern and Meryl Streep.  The set features all seven one-hour episodes along with some great bonus features.

After a great first season, BIG LITTLE LIES builds on the group of friends that came together over one bad guy.  Written by David E. Kelley, based on the novel by Liane Moriarty and directed by Jean-Marc Vallee, the collective talent is on full display.  With the first season ending in satisfying fashion, unraveling the mystery the season was built on, season two had to begin fresh and it did.

The second season surrounds Madeline (Witherspoon), starting off the new school year and hearing those around her talking about the death of her friend’s abusive husband, Perry (Alexander Skargard).  The effect of the death and what caused the death has an impact on each of the characters involved.  The second season does a great job in displaying the characters and their emotions as they deal with this.  The pacing is really great in this as well, making this a very binge-worthy series.

Perry’s killer, Bonnie (Zoe Kravitz) is the only one in the group that is having major issues and is becoming introverted.  Perry’s mother, Mary Louise, played by Streep, is one of the best additions to the season.  Streep delivers as she becomes Perry, staring the group directly in the face.  Celeste (Kidman) has some great encounters with Mary Louise, adding a level of anxiety to the entire show.  The tension is high here.

BIG LITTLE LIES: THE COMPLETE SECOND SEASON is a great follow up to the first season.  I highly recommend it.
