Anthology of Terror (2010) – HORROR MOVIE REVIEW

I love horror anthologies, typically. Variety is the spice of life and you can usually count on at least one enjoyable tale. So, I went into ANTHOLOGY OF TERROR with high hopes, but then I found out that it was only 43 minutes. Hmmm…that’s odd. When three tales can’t make a feature length, there might be something wrong.

We begin with The Archivist (Paul Strikwerda). He is a man that is all in black. He covers his face, has a cool hat and a very thick book where he is forced to read these stories. Poor guy. If I had to read these stories for an eternity, I would be a tortured soul as well. For an anthology, the intros to the tale are incredibly short. The Archivist speaks for about a minute and then we go into the tale and when the tale is over, he goes onto the next one without mentioning anything about the prior one.

OK, we start with two thugs attempting to rob an old woman. She has some fat man/woman in the backyard covered in gauze that is drenched in blood. The two thugs break in, kill the old woman, shoot the man/woman with gauze in the head, and get away with very little. Well, the man/woman in gauze isn’t dead and comes back for revenge and they shoot it in the head again but that doesn’t kill him/her either. The two thugs are killed. The end. What the fuck was that?

In the second tale, we have an abused wife that poisons her husband. Years later, he comes back all decomposed with the exception of his arms, hands, and so forth. Why the tale’s message seemed to be if you’re beaten by your husband, just let him do it, or you’ll pay a bigger price, is beyond me. I don’t think that there was much thought put into this one either.

In the third tale, taking place in 2077, is about a soldier that is walking around an abandoned building and runs into a ghost. That’s it…nothing here either. This may have been the best of the three tales, but it’s only due to the neat location. It was just as empty and uninspired as the other two.

ANTHOLOGY OF TERROR is terrible. It is a long 43 minute film with no redeeming values. I do not recommend it.

Rating: 1/10
