Super middleweight Ali Akhmedov, 15-0, 11 KO’s, won a controversial third round knockout over Marcus McDaniel, 15-1, 2 KO’s, with a punch to the back of the head. From the opening round, Akhmedov stalked the moving opponent but had a hard time finding him. He was dominating but he just wasn’t finding the mark.
In the third round, Akhmedov got McDaniel against the ropes and unloaded. Most of the punches were dodged but a left hook landed and when McDaniel dipped, he got clipped in the back of the head with a hard right. He went down and got up and the referee seemed to prematurely stop the fight. This isn’t a great feather in the cap for Akhmedov, but it’s a baby step forward and with GGG behind him, he should probably move onto bigger and better things and better moments.
