“Do you believe in ghosts”

This little gem of a drama was written and produced by, Mark Gatiss, and broadcasted upon the BBC (British, Broadcasting Corporation) and since there is very little of a movie industry within the U.K. it prides me to say that the BBC have continued to turn out supernatural drama’s every now and then for us and have been doing so since the late 1960s…More BBC dramas can be streamed for free here!

Now regarding this one,

Ben, (Lee Inglby) as moved on to a new estate and has discovered a door knocker that was partly buried, he takes it to the local museum where he discovers the door knocker belonged to, Geap Manor, that once stood proudly where the estate is now built, we then get to hear that the original owner of Geap Manor, Sir Roger Widdowson, back in the 16th century, practiced black magic upon the premises, gaining success in business though was never successful when it came to having children with his wife and it seems the Manor ever since has a terrible history. We are then told two stories that are based around the Manor house…

1st story “The Wainscoting”

Joseph Bloxham, (Philip Jackson) brought the property in 1786, he was a successful businessman and was having, renovations carried out on, Geap Manor, that was showing its age and decaying; Master Coil (John Arthur) is the man working upon it, however it isn’t too long before noises are heard, scents are smelt that are unusual. Joseph soon becomes afraid and paranoid within the house. But what is causing the spookiness and it soon becomes obvious that Master Coil as a little dark secret his own, a secret that brings this 1st story in to a terrifying climax.

2nd story “Something old”

In the next story we are introduced to the, De Momery family, the year is 1927, and within Geap Manor, Felix de Momery (Ian Hallard) decides to throw a party, plenty of dancing and fun times, Ruth (Jennifer Higham) is his fiancée and they both have an announcement to make. Marriage is in the air, however, Katherine, (Anna Madeley) is not too impressed, she is devastated as she is an old flame and still has feelings towards, Felix… And whilst all this is happening there seems to be a mysterious woman walking around, dressed in a fading wedding dress. Yes the, De Momery family have a dark secret, something dreadful that happened within the house.

3rd story “The Knocker”

We then go back to modern day for the final story, Ben returns home with the door knocker and attaches it to his door, where during the night he is woken by a banging upon the door, he goes out to find the door close behind him and when he re-enters the house, he steps in to the 16th century, Geap Manor. We then discover the following day Ben is having problems with his wife, Hannah. (Daniela Denby Ashh) who is pregnant, with their first child, and therefore gives this last story a nice gripping finish has it becomes obvious the ghost from the past, the crazy Sir Roger Widdowson wants that child…

This is a nice trilogy of stories well written and performed, worthy of a watch.

Rating: 8.5/10
