ZZZZZZZZ ZZZZZZZZ ZZZZZZZ WHAT?…Oh sorry…I was just watching “3 Geezers”. How does it end? I can’t remember. I fell asleep.

OK, I did not fall asleep. I watched it all the way through but let me tell you it was a struggle. The premise goes as follows. Hollywood actor JK Simons, who I recognize from the State Farm Insurance commercials, is researching a role. He heads to the Coconut Convalescent home to learn what it is like living in one and being old. He meets up with a few of the mischievous residents and all kinds of hilarity ensues.

I guess. I found it pretty non-entertaining. It was shot reality television style, and quite frankly that has already been overdone.

I can see what was trying to be done with this movie but to me it fell flat. I found the characters and their antics too contrived, much like many of the reality shows that pollute cable television nowadays. To add insult to injury, the film is promoted as starring such actors as Tim Allen and Kevin Pollak. They make cameos. A cameo in my opinion does not mean you starred in a movie. These names actors, I feel, are tossed in this flick merely to add a name to sell a very disappointing comedy. I guess even Tim Allen has to help out a friend every now and then.

Sure it has some funny parts in it but overall I can not in good conscience recommend “3 Geezers” be added to your must see list of movies. If you do buy or rent it you have been warned. If you liked it I would love to hear your opinion because maybe I’m missing something here. I do not like giving a bad review to a movie because I always have it in the back of my mind how difficult it is to create a film, but for goodness sake it has to have entertainment value.

Overall a pretty mundane movie with an overdone premise and humor that, I’m sure, seemed hysterically funny to the cast and crew as they shot this. Unfortunately it does not translate over very well to the person viewing the movie at home.

  1. I thought the movie was very funny. Showed the elderly in a different light. Yeah, ain’t gonna win any awards (maybe the soundtrack which was fresh and original). I thought it was like Movie 43 which I also loved and critics hated. Not every movie has to try to change the world, or be dark and gloomy. This was just simple entertainment delivered without preaching or taking itself too seriously. I hope I grow old as gracefully and have fun in the process.
