Miner’s Massacre (2002) – Curse of the Forty-Niner HORROR MOVIE REVIEW

I love monster movies and MINER’S MASSACRE was a straight to video monster movie with some cool visuals and neat bad buy, but little else. It did bring me back to the time when I used to go to the video stores like Blockbuster and Hollywood Video to find titles like this, but other than that, there wasn’t a great deal of enjoyment to be found.

We begin with a group of friends that discover gold, but soon find out that they have crossed the wrong being. The Forty-Niner kills anyone that crosses him and this group has taken what is rightfully his and now they must run and try to return the gold in order to save their lives.

I would mention the characters, but they are indistinguishable. This movie a great struggle to get through until the 50 minute mark. That’s when it picks up, but it still doesn’t pick up at a pace that will keep most interested. I was just at the no turning back point. I made it this far. I had to finish it.

We learn the history of the miner and he certainly looks cool and has a great maniacal laugh. The character was outstanding but he was it. There were appearances by established talent like Karen Black, Martin Kove and Richard Lynch, but they didn’t have much to work with. It was nice to see them however.

The ending of this movie is outstanding. I loved the absurdity of it and rewound it several times to enjoy it over and over again. Had this movie presented the ending looped for 90 minutes, I may have given it a 10/10, but since they didn’t, I have to judge it according. MINER’S MASSACRE is barely watchable and not that enjoyable, but they capture the magic at certain times. If you are a die-hard slasher fan, you may want to give this one a watch but go into it with very low expectations. It pretty shitty.

Rating: 3.5/10
