ZOMBIE DIARIES (2007) – ZOMBIE/HORROR Movie Review

By Chris Summerfield

It would be interesting to know how many movies have been made through somebody supposed documenting what was happening, yes it seems since the arrival of, Paranormal Activity, Cloverfield, REC and Diary of the Dead there has been a huge surge in the amount being made… Okay there was. The Blair Witch Project before those, and one I can recall that was two thirds made as a documentation being, Cannibal Holocaust, in which to me was a classic of the 70s.

Now as regards this movie this was the attempt of, Kevin Gates and Michael Bartlett, to frighten and shock us…

In the beginning the army are documenting their procedures as they are checking out a farm…

Then it goes to, Diary one, The Outbreak

People are being interviewed regards a breakout of a virus, the interviews being carried out by, Leann (Victoria Narder), cameraman Mati, (Jonathon Ball) Andy, (Craig Stokin) and Vanessa (Anna Blades).

Leann and her friends then find themselves heading out to a farm to interview the owner though find it deserted, however after hearing, London has been infected with the virus, they decide to return to the farm… It soon becomes overrun with the living dead, so they flee…

Diary 2, The Scavengers

We are then introduces to new characters, Elizabeth (Alison Mollon) Greg (Kyle Sparks) and John (Jonnie Hurn). They are travelling within a car, seeking food and whatever they can scavenge, they go in to a town, in which amazes me as the windows of the shops are intact and there are no signs of abounded cars, no signs of hysteria that would have gone down with a viral infection that had obviously swept the world.

Diary 3 The Survivors

And you guessed it, more new characters, a farm is the setting, we meet, Geoff, (James Fisher) and Anna Mckenzie (Sophia Ellis) and their party; the desperation is setting in as they battle with the zombies and each other…

We do find out at the end what happened to the original four…

As regards this movie, there seems to be an awful lot of confusion, making it difficult to follow and understand what the hell is happening…

The camera work is often too shaky and at times very poor, especially in the dark…

Now let me make it clear, I love a zombie movie, but this is so poor… Though saying that Kevin Gates and Michael Bartlett, did create a sequel, “World of the Dead,” in which was a little better but still lacked the punch of what a zombie movie should deliver…

Definitely a movie to avoid…
