WOLF CREEK 2, the epic horror/action/thriller follow up to box office smash hit WOLF CREEK rose to the #1 slot of the Australian Box Office this past weekend, beating out not only its predecessor but also Disney war drama LONE SURVIVOR starring Mark Wahlberg and Eric Bana.
The film brought in close to $2M this weekend alone on 218 screens throughout Australia and is being distributed there by Roadshow films.
“WOLF CREEK 2 is right where it belongs; at #1,” said Gary Hamilton, Managing Director of Arclight Films, who are handling international sales on the film. “Audiences around the world have been eagerly awaiting the return of Mick Tayor (Jarratt) and have turned out in droves to be thrilled beyond their wildest dreams. This bodes extremely well for the success of further releases of the film throughout the world.”
Canada, Germany, Greece, India, the UK, Korea, Malaysia, the Middle East, Poland, Scandinavia, Singapore, Spain and Turkey join the list of sold territories.
Seeking to experience the real Australia, backpackers Rutger (Klaus) and Katarina (Ashlyn) hitchhike off the main tourist route to the awe-inspiring Wolf Creek crater. A place that’s also the hunting ground of psychopathic pig-shooter Mick Taylor (Jarratt): the last man any outback traveller wants to meet.
After a chilling attack in the dead of night, the crazed bushman pursues his prey in an epic, white-knuckled rampage across hostile wasteland that pushes his victims to the brink of madness. When Mick locks onto his prey, nothing — and no-one — can stand in his way.
The film stars John Jarratt, Philippe Klause, Ryan Corr and Shannon Ashlyn, is directed by Greg McLean, written by McLean and Aaron Sterns and is produced by Helen Leake and Steve Topic.
