The Italian classic WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO SOLANGE? has been digitally via ARROW VIDEO on a Special Edition blu-ray that contains an abundance of features that horror fans are sure to enjoy.
The thriller follows a ruthless and violent murderer who seeks out specific women to humiliate and kill in the most heinous of ways. Knives and other sharp objects are thrust inside of them and most are left naked.
Henry (Fabio Testi) is a main suspect for several reasons. He’s a teacher at the school where the victims attend and he is having an affair with one of his students, Elizabeth (Cristina Galbo). He sets out to prove his innocence, but the case strengthens against him as more people die.
Elizabeth attempts to help as she was present during one of the murders, but her memories are fuzzy. She tells them about a figure in black holding a knife. This doesn’t help much but as the students are from a Catholic school, there are plenty of priests walking around in black that are potential suspects.
Throughout the movie, the characters are looking for a girl named Solange (Camille Keaton). Everyone knows that finding her could help blow the case wide open, but she is nowhere to be found.
This is an intelligent whodunit that doesn’t insult the audience with an obvious suspect or cause for the murders. The need, to know who Solange is and what she has to do with it all, grows as the movie goes on.
The pace is excellent and the cast is great. The conclusion is one that is both surprising and fulfilling. The 70s were fantastic in the way in which they pulled no punches and showed every gruesome detail. This is no exception. The shocking brutality isn’t the only reason to watch this.
It has a fantastic cast, great acting and an original plot. Films of today, even those rare R rated ones, don’t have the gumption to put forth something like this. It really needs to be seen to be believed.
