Vasiliy Lomachenko, 14-1, 10 KO’s, unified the WBA, WBC and WBO lightweight titles with a unanimous decision victory over a very game Luke Campbell, 20-3, 16 KO’s, by scores of 119-108 (twice) and 118-109. The fight was far more competitive than the scorecards indicated.
Campbell tried to keep the fight on the outside and land his shots that he was able to hit here and there, but the class of Lomachenko was the story. In the fifth round, a body shot hurt Campbell badly. He would survive and come back strong, but as the rounds went on, the conditioning of Loma was the story and in the championship rounds, the winner was clear.
Campbell would crumble in the 11th round but would arise and try to survive. The final round was another survival round for Campbell and, after the final bell, there was no question as to who won. It was a good fight but the class of Loma was the story. When he found his groove, it was over.
