Urban Legends Bloody Mary – Horror Movie Review

I was scanning Netflix and Amazon Prime to find a movie to review.  I decided on Urban Legends Bloody Mary. Straight-to-DVD sequels can be awful but I recalled seeing this quite a while ago and it not being half bad so I thought I’d give it another go.

The movie opens with three teenagers enjoying a sleepover.  Though, it’s homecoming night the girls don’t attend.   The jocks are angry with them as Samantha (Kate Mara) posted unflattering pictures of the football team in the school newspaper so rather than go to the dance and deal with drama, the girls have a slumber party.  They talk about the legend of Bloody Mary and chant the woman’s name three times.

The girls end up drugged and in an abandoned warehouse unsure of how they got there.  Though that turns out to be nothing more than a revenge prank by the jocks, strange things soon begin to actually occur.  The students begin getting killed in ways that are connected to Urban Legends.

Samantha needs to know more and with the help of her brother David (Robert Vito) looks into an event that occurred 35 years prior.   Then, a girl by the name of Mary (Lilith Fields) was being tormented by the jocks.  She too was a victim of a prank, only this prank ensured she’d never be seen again. Now, Mary has returned for vengeance and takes her anger out on the children of those that wronged her.

Overall, the movie is very successful in becoming a good addition to the teen screams category.  It’s a combination of several different films.  The film utilizes parts of  Nightmare on Elm St, Prom Night II, and Final Destination to create something all its own.  Though, I can’t honestly say it’s original, it does seem to be more of an homage to the other movies than a blatant rip-off.

The acting and casting both are above par.  The ending is predictable but still entertaining.  I would say that surprisingly this is the best of the Urban Legends trilogy.

Scared Stiff Rating:  6.5/10
