Film Movement (www.filmmovement.com), the New York-based film distribution company, announces that TRAITORS, the story of a young punk rocker who gets in over her head when she needs to make a lot of money in a short amount of time, premieres On Demand on all cable and digital platforms on December 23, alongside the New York-centric coming-of-age drama Night Has Settled.

The debut feature from Sean Gullette, best known as the star of Darren Aronofsky’s breakout Pi, TRAITORS follows Malika (an acclaimed performance by Chaimae Ben Acha), as the leader of Traitors, an all-female punk rock band. She has a strong vision of the world, her hometown of Tangier, and her place in it. When she needs money to save her family from eviction and to realize her dreams for the band, Malika agrees to a fast cash proposition: a smuggling run over the mountains for a dangerous drug dealer. Her companion on the road is Amal, also a young woman yet already a burnt-out veteran drug mule who Malika decides to free from her enslavement to the dangerous drug dealers. The challenge will put Malika’s rebel ethos to the test, and to survive she will have to call on all her instincts and nerve.

After its debut at the Venice Film Festival, Screen Daily said of the film, “A slick and spiky drama…Traitors is an impressive film that belies its low budget as it breaks rules and creates an impressively off-kilter breakout project.” Before its On Demand premiere, the film saw extensive U.S. film festival play, including a premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival earlier this year.

Also available on video-on-demand November 4 is NIGHT HAS SETTLED, the coming-of-age drama about a young boy in 1983 New York City. He’s well-poised to enter the precocious teenage world of first-time sex, alcohol and love when the housekeeper who raised him has a traumatizing stroke. Oliver struggles through attacks of mania, drunkenness, betrayal, losing his virginity and a close friend, all in the hopes of surviving his New York-style baptism by fire.

Film Movement’s holdover on demand programming includes Austria’s Best Foreign Language Oscars submission THE DARK VALLEY; French New Wave featurette NIGHTS WITH THOEDORE; 1,000 TIMES GOOD NIGHT, starring Oscar®-winner Juliette Binoche; A LIFE IN DIRTY MOVIES, a documentary about the life and career of sexploitation filmmaker Joe Sarno; Chilean drama and that country’s Oscars submission TO KILL A MAN; and the second-screen thriller APP from RAM Releasing.
