Marketed as “the heavyweight boxing match in history”, a grudge was settled as Thor (Hafthor Bjornson), 1-0, out-boxed the heavier Eddie Hall, 0-1, over the course of six rounds, taking the unanimous decision by scores of 57-54 across the board.
Remarkably, this resembled a boxing match. The taller Thor used movement as Hall loaded up. Hall was the bigger puncher and landed the looping right hand with some regularity. In the second round, Thor was send reeling into the ropes and it was called a knockdown.
Despite winning the first two rounds, Hall was taking damage, getting cut over both eyes. In the third round, you could see that Hall was getting exhausted and it gave Thor the ability to start setting up his offense. At the end of the third round, a straight left hand dropped Hall hard. He got up and was saved by the bell.
The fourth and fifth round was all Thor using his jab and movement to control the shorter fighter. Hall was exhausted and could not muster the energy to get his punches going.
In the sixth round another straight left would send Hall down again. He would get up and the rest of the round would resemble the fourth and fifth with Thor controlling from the outside leading to the decision win.
The two would shake hands after and the feud is apparently over. It was a good fight for what it was. It was way better than I expected.
