Sony Pictures is celebrating the 25th anniversary of the highly successful THE SWAN PRINCESS with a 4K HDR and Blu-ray release on October 29th along with a new film: THE SWAN PRINCESS: KINGDOM OF MUSIC, now available on DVD and digital.
My 9-year-old daughter is a big fan of princesses and animated films that feature them. We see this in THE SWAN PRINCESS: KINGDOM OF MUSIC. The animation is passable but it’s obviously not a large budget film. The story and overall voice acting evens it out. The film hits the mark for kids without question. My daughter enjoyed it and especially enjoyed the talking animals that were featured throughout.
Mei Li desperately wants her man, Chen, to come back to normalcy after being turned into a dragon. To break the curse, she travels to see the Swan Princess, Odette (Nina Herzog), but it won’t be easy.
There is also a music festival being held with Master Lee hoping to win it. The presentation of the music festival is highly influenced by shows like AMERICAN IDOL and THE VOICE. Once again, my daughter liked it and noticed the similarity right away.
There is a good deal of music that’s not great but it’s passable and doesn’t make you want to shut off the film quickly. The film has enough cute talking animals to keep the kids interested and the journey of Li is rather interesting.
THE SWAN PRINCESS: KINGDOM OF MUSIC is not meant for a 45-year-old man (me) but hit home with my 9-year-old. It hits all the marks to make a young girl happy and that’s the point of this movie in the end. So, if you got a little girl that loves princesses, this will be something that they would probably enjoy.
