The Legacy (1978) – Horror Movie Review

It’s been so long since I wrote a review!  It seems like forever.  I was on leave from my day job for a while and then I came back and went full force into it so I didn’t really have time to write reviews – and I was lazy.

Anyways, I watched this film about two weeks ago, and I’ve wanted to write the review since then.  I’m a huge Katharine Ross fan.  Whether it is THE GRADUATE (1967) or the amazing THE STEPFORD WIVES (1975), her performance always is captivating.  This is no exception.

Margaret (Katharine Ross) and her boyfriend Pete (Sam Elliott) travel to England for a job.  When they arrive they get into an accident with a limo driver.  The passenger Jason (John Standing) offers them to come and stay at his mansion. When she gets there she soon finds out she was beckoned for a very different reason.

Margaret realizes that she has been brought there by Jason so that he can decide who will run the household.  Jason’s appearance becomes horrific and he is near death as he places a ring on Margaret’s finger.  The same ring is on other housemates that soon begin to die.  Fearful for herself, Margaret and Pete steal a car and try to leave but regardless of the road they take they come back to the house.

Margaret decides she is supposed to be there.  Together with Pete, she returns into the home which seemingly is in charge of their fate.

This was a great thriller with a perfect cast and a creepy tone and atmosphere.  Katherine Ross has this amazing strength about her.  She is the epitome of femininity while fully capable of defending herself in a crisis.  I absolutely adore her.

My husband was thrilled because Roger Daltrey had a pretty big role in it.  Both of us are fans of THE WHO but Steve loves them far more than I do.  It’s his favorite band.  Mine is probably IRON MAIDEN, JUDAS PRIEST or THE ANIMALS – but THE WHO is definitely in my top 15 right next to THE ROLLING STONES.  Not to mention, Daltrey has some great acting chops.  I may be one of the few people who love the musical TOMMY, but I stand by the fact that regardless of one’s opinion of the film, Daltrey was awesome!  Not to mention, Oliver Reed as a murderous singing stepfather was just beyond brilliant.

As for THE LEGACY, I definitely recommend it.  It’s fun, crazy and though there are a few unexplained events that occur, not knowing allows the audience to use their imagination.  Those things that are left to the viewer are not plot holes but instead just things to think about once the film concludes.

Scared Stiff Rating:  7/10

Horror Anthology Movie: Volume 1 (2013) – ANTHOLOGY HORROR MOVIE REVIEW

By Geno McGahee I love anthologies. The mixed bag usually presents something for everyone. In HORROR ANTHOLOGY MOVIE: VOLUME 1, we have a collection of shorts put together. There is no wraparound tale, unfortunately. So, this is more of just a collection of shorts rather than the traditional anthology, but […]
