Lionsgate has just released THE HOUSE NEXT DOOR: MEET THE BLACKS 2 has just been released on Blu-ray and DVD and it doesn’t take itself too seriously, bringing together a lot of talent in this comedic film that uses a lot of horror elements as well.
After dealing with Purge-like activity in the original, Carl (Mike Epps) returns home after writing a book, but there is something up with his new neighbor, Dr. Mamuwalde, and it is bothering him very much. There is a growing suspicion that the neighbor might just be a vampire. Katt Williams plays the role and, as always, plays it very well. Katt Williams is comedic gold whenever he acts and he understands the role here and does pretty well with it.
The film relies on vulgar humor a lot to carry it along and it is funny. This is not a film to make you think. This is a spoof that is meant to just make you laugh and sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn’t, but I really enjoyed it when it was good. It threw a lot at the wall and some of it stuck.
The journey Carl goes through to uncover his neighbor’s mystery but to also reconnect with is family was interesting, but the most notable thing about this film is that it’s just funny. It’s not the best comedy or spoof I’ve ever seen, but there’s enough here to really enjoy. THE HOUSE NEXT DOOR: MEET THE BLACKS 2 is worth a watch and pretty funny all around.
