Film Masters does it again with the release of a two-disc double feature of THE GIANT GILA MONSTER and THE KILLER SHREWS. Upon opening the Blu-ray, I was immediately impressed. The presentation was is so good and you get a booklet that gets you right into the mood to pop these discs into the Blu-ray player, which is what I did.
THE GIANT GILA MONSTER is just a lot of fun with some missing teens and an investigation leading to the discovery of a town with a huge problem. There is a huge Gila Monster on the loose, killing townspeople and the sheriff must take it down. This is just a great Drive-In sort of film with some innovative special effects and a great usage of music.
THE KILLER SHREWS concerns an island that is getting hit by a hurricane but that’s the least of their problems. To avoid overpopulation, the humans are shrunk but that leaves them easy prey to the Killer Shrews. This is a very silly movie but it has the same charm as THE GIANT GILA MONSTER and the same sort of musical approach to keep it fun.
The 4K presentation and restoration is amazing and this is loaded with extras that any fan of the Drive-In movies of the 1950s will appreciate and enjoy. I cannot recommend this enough. I had such a good time watching these back to back and that’s what I suggest you do. Make it a double feature and get some popcorn. It’ll be a good time.
