John (Oliver Hudson) is a party dude and has just inherited a house on an island. The first thing that he does is plan a getaway with his brother and friends to enjoy it, but the island has some serious problems.
Matt (Eric Lively) has had issues with his brother, but there is still a mutual love. Matt is studying to be a veterinarian and has his life together and actually is skipping his final to go on this trip. His girlfriend, Nicki (Michelle Rodriguez), childhood friend, Sara (Taryn Manning) and another friend, Noah (Hill Harper) join the brothers and all board a small plane and head to the island.
The location is awesome. The house is enormous and there is even a zip line. Those things look incredibly fun. I need to do a zip line one of these days. Thankfully, the zip line comes in handy for the team when they are attacked by killer dogs.
The home was owned by the uncle of the brothers and he was involved in some experimenting, making genetically enhanced killer dogs. They all have rabies, have been trained as attack dogs, and are smarter than the average canine. Sara gets bitten by one of the dogs and gets infected by the advanced rabies, making her slowly go crazy. So the group now has to deal with that problem and the dogs outside trying to get in.
It’s a battle for survival and it is intense. This is a well written, character-driven thriller. Even though some of the people have flaws, they are still very likable and easy to support. You want to see them defeat the dogs and when a few of them are torn to ribbons by the dogs, you get the “that sucks” feeling. These characters are very well defined and the acting is superb.
THE BREED is an intense thrill-ride with great acting, writing, and characters. I highly recommend it.
