The 3 Most Influential Directors of Our Lifetime

Cinema is experiencing considerable change from one decade to another. Whilst countless 90’s movies are edgy and creative, current popular films can be quite repetitive with the single goal of getting more viewers. Franchise movies like Avengers or Fast and Furious, although entertaining don’t challenge any beliefs or bring something new to the table.

To celebrate great cinema, and great directors we compiled a list with some of the most iconic directors of our lifetime. These are directors that created cult movies that inspire people even decades later.

Martin Scorsese

Martin Scorsese’s storytelling capabilities and great taste in music ended up positioning him as one of the greatest directors ever. His gangster-inspired movies with Rolling Stones songs and Robert De Niro as the lead are a genre of film in and of itself.

Each of his movies have a few common traits like cult characters, immersive stories, and iconic songs. His Casino (1995) movie zooms-in on the life of Sam “Ace” a casino manager from Las Vegas. Over 25 years later and the movie is still relevant since many of the gambling scenes are very similar to what you might find nowadays on the internet. An online casino features many games that are reminiscent of the ones found in Vegas casinos from that time period. The only difference is that online casino apps allow you to gamble from home while providing the same fun experience, for free.

Besides Casino, other movies like Goodfellas, Mean Streets and The Irishman also feature similar actors, music and tell a related story. However, Scorsese is far more than just a director making mob movies. He’s also the brilliant mind behind Taxi Driver, The Wolf of Wall Street, The Aviator, and even Gangs of New York.

Quentin Tarantino

Tarantino’s movies have inspired a huge cult-like following in the cinema industry and a Tarantinoesque genre. Many of his movies tell a popular story but with a different ending. Inglourious Basterds is a movie about Jews that fight nazis in WWII and end up with a victory. Upon a Time in Hollywood, his latest creation tells the story of the real-life “Manson Murders” but with a flipped happy ending.

Each of his movies feature outstanding characters and fun dialogue that keep you engaged throughout the story. Pulp Fiction is Tarantino’s best movie to date and the one that actually put the director on the map. However, Reservoir Dogs, Django Unchained, and Kill Bill are also masterpieces. To be noted, he doesn’t have a single bad movie.

David Fincher

David Fincher created one movie in particular that is still influencing our society, and that’s Fight Club. The movie is based on Chuck Palahniuk’s novel with the same name and ended up becoming a source of inspiration for many men, building a solid audience in the process. He also created Se7en, The Social Network, and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Fincher’s movies have a complicated plot and tell the story of characters that people end up loving and resonating with.
