Horror fans, the business is booming. The highly anticipated TEXAS CHAINSAW 3D took top spot at the box office and has brought back Leatherface, the killer with a mask made of human skin. This would mark the second attempt to revive the series. Michael Bay produced two flicks, but neither passed as an acceptable follow up in the series. TEXAS CHAINSAW 3D is getting some very good and some very bad reviews. People either love it or hate it, which is always a good sign in horror.

THE LAST EXORCISM 2 is opening up on March 1st, released by CBS Films, and the trailer and artwork have just been released. This is the synopsis:

Continuing where the first film left off, Nell Sweetzer (Ashley Bell) is found terrified and alone in rural Louisiana. Back in the relative safety of New Orleans, Nell realizes that she can’t remember entire portions of the previous months only that she is the last surviving member of her family. Just as Nell begins the difficult process of starting a new life, the evil force that once possessed her is back with other, unimaginably horrific plans that mean her last exorcism was just the beginning.

One of the fastest rising filmmakers on the horror front, Geno McGahee, has been getting a lot of media coverage for his ‘SCARY TALES,’ an anthology that has been doing incredibly well at the film festivals. The most recent festival is the HORROR ON SEA film festival in the UK on the 25th of this month. This is how the festival described this horror film:

At a reunion, four high school classmates reminisce about their scariest moments in this superb horror anthology. The stories move at a fast, thrilling pace, supported by strong editing and excellent aesthetics. The writing keeps you on your toes, the acting is at times superb, and the unique camera close-ups sprinkled in throughout the film add an element of unpredictability that every horror movie should strive for.

McGahee has been covered by IFC, MTV and Fangoria for his film “FAMILY SECRET,” and now this follow up has a great deal of momentum. SCARY TALES is one to watch..

The horror scene is alive and well and these three entries are just a sample of what 2013 should bring.
