In 1984, THE TERMINATOR was unleashed on the public and it was a gritty horror/sci-fi movie with a unique storyline and great villain. The Terminator was a cyborg played by a budding star in Arnold Schwarzenegger. It became his Launchpad into superstardom and led to a highly anticipated sequel in 1991, T2: JUDGMENT DAY. In a rare occurrence, the sequel lived up to and, arguably, surpassed the quality of the first one.
The magic was gone with the 2003 TERMINATOR 3:RISE OF THE MACHINES and the series proved dead in 2009’s TERMINATOR SALVATION. It looked like the series was going to go out on a sour note, but Arnold is back and he’s doing things the right way this time. His recent run of films including ESCAPE PLAN and SABOTAGE proved that he has plenty left in the tank and his zombie movie MAGGIE looks promising as well. None look as promising as TERMINATOR: GENISYS, a return to the original series and it looks just as unique and gritty as the first.
The setting, once again, is 1984 and we are returning to the time when it all began for Sarah Connor, but there is something else happening. All of the time travel has apparently changed things. The Sarah that Kyle Reese is not the underprepared waitress. She is a tough as nails warrior and has a Terminator with her. This leads to a Terminator vs. Terminator, Schwarzenegger vs. Schwarzenegger scene that looks epic. We also have a liquid metal guy roaming around and now John Connor has turned up and he is part robot or total robot, but he’s up to no good.
TERMINATOR: GENISYS looks incredible. As a big TERMINATOR fan that completely ignores the third and fourth entry, this has been a long time coming. I think that we are going to see something that belongs beside the first two. This is the big blockbuster that I am looking forward to the most.
