Interview by Geno McGahee

LA-based punk/rock band “TARAH WHO” has been earning quite a fan base lately with their unique sound and powerful music.  A female-fronted power trio, Tarah Who is a band to check out.  Recently, Scared Stiff had the chance to sit down with the band and talk about their music and what to expect from them in the near future…

GM: Can you introduce yourself to the public? How would you describe your band, your style, your message?

TGC: Hi! I am Tarah, leader, singer and guitar player of Tarah Who? We are a very energetic power duo. Both originally from France, but we met out here in Los Angeles. We don’t fit in one specific genre. We play loud, rock music. Some songs are more grunge, 90’s, Rock, Punk…

All the songs are very personal. Written form experience or events I have either been through or heard of that really affected me.

CH: My name is Coralie and I’m the drummer of Tarah Who? Like Tarah said our misic is a mix between rock/punk/grunge but at the same time is unique.

GM: What got you into music?

TGC: I have never really thought of it actually. When I was14, I really wanted to play bass and drums in Rock bands so I just did. A couple of years later, I started writing my own songs and taught myself the guitar, and that’s how it all started. I just never stopped playing. I can’t imagine this life without playing. I get really frustrated and anxious when I don’t play.

CH: I don’t really know but my mum started to take some guitar lessons at the music school of my town and I followed with drum lessons, I never stop hahahaha.

GM: What musicians/bands were your inspirations?

TGC: I grew up listening to Alanis Morissette, and my mom would clean the house blasting albums of the Pink Floyd, Rolling Stones, Bon Jovi etc… Then I discovered The Distillers, FooFighters, RATM, Pantera, TOOL, Smashing Pumpkins, and I found my calling!

CH: I began to listen to AC/DC, Guns’N’Roses, classic rock mostly until I discover Nightwish, a symphonic metal band from Finland, and I took a direction more metal.

GM: Talk about your latest album. What should the public expect?

TGC: We released ’64 Women’ last March 2019. WE have a brand new single coming out on November 22, 2019, called “PANTOMATH”. Very upbeat, punk kind of like early AFI. Very straight forward. Simple but to the point! We are very excited about this release!

GM: What has been the best experience you’ve had being in the business?

TGC: There were a few very cool moments, all the people that you meet on the road, the people you end up working with, the endorsements, people who believe in you and push you up. Recently we have been submitted to the grammys2020 and that is really exciting!

CH: It’s really fun to discover and visit new cities, meet new people, etcetera.

GM: What has been the worst experience you’ve had?

TGC: It is never fun to lose a bandmate or travel to a show and the promoter cancels the show the day of. The worst experience so far. I would say, this one drummer who was just horrible to work with.

GM: With the changing mediums in the distribution of music, how difficult is it to make a living in the business?

TGC: WE have different ways of making a living. Touring is the most efficient way. Unless you write songs that are directly synced to movies or TV, playing live shows and selling your merch is where your income is coming from. We are lucky to still have people buying CDs! It is a lot less, but we still have a few.

GM: Any final thoughts?

TGC: Yes! If you would like to know more about the band or being independent, please check out our docu-series available on youtube!
