Earlier this month, “Tethers” was featured on The Strombo Show‘s most recent episode after the band landed on the show’s Top Songs of 2020 with their previous single “Reputation”. The group has also recently been featured on the likes of Exclaim! Magazine’s Eh List, Apple Music’s New In Rock, among others.
The music video, produced by Section 4 Films and directed by Lindsay Hitchcock plays off of the emotion and vulnerability of the track. Strange Breed vocalist Nicolle Dupas comments, “I wanted the video to feel a little dirty, lonely and desperate. I feel like we got that across in the song fairly well, but the video had to be next level to really drive that home. Tethers, for me, evokes a very visceral physical reaction when we play it, or even when we listen to it. I wrote the song about detaching from people in your life when you’re on a journey of exploring your authentic self and following your passions. It’s a story we’ve definitely all heard before, but I didn’t want it to necessarily be an uplifting version of that story.”
“Naturally, we called upon our go-to team at Section 4 Films to help us create something that would capture this. The vision for the video was an experience of living in a limbo state – not dead…but maybe not alive…not here, not there….everything is mostly normal, but just a little f*cked up. It really lets viewers into the headspace of being completely distant from others in your life, and just kind of letting the world you’re in consume you. The plot of the video is that the band is at a motel, in between shows on tour (RIP tour). It speaks to that narrative of chasing your dreams no matter how crazy they get. However, even when we’re in it together, we can be so distant from each other at times. We can be in the same room having the same experience but moving through it so differently,” adds Dupas.
